Welcome, Kara Dewitt!

Kara is our new intern here at Empire Interpreting and we are very excited to have her on board! She is currently a junior at Keuka College studying ASL/English Interpreting. She became interested in interpreting when she was in high school as there was a group of Deaf children and interpreters at the camp where she worked. She then decided to take an ASL class through BOCES in Syracuse and shortly after, fell in love with Deaf culture, language and commuity, and declared it as her major. Kara is interning with EIS because she would like to learn more about the business of interpreting while learning from other interpreters through observation and building her professional network. She is a member of the Women's tennis team at Keuka and in her spare time, likes to ski.

One of Empire Interpreting Service™’s Professional Spanish Interpreters speaks about the importance of having a Professional Interpreter for medical appointments.

Having to explain to her grandmother that she had cancer, when she was a child, left a lasting impression on her. Visit our

EIS is very excited to share with you a commercial clip that EIS’ very own Virginia Scarpino CT, Nationally Certified Sign Language Interpreter, signed for AIM Independent Living Centers. Virginia is ‘the Interpreter in an oval,’ which many of you may remember seeing in the show WSTM Showboat back in the 80’s. Have you ever wondered how they do it?

For AIM’s ‘Ticket to Work’ commercial, Virginia was included in the staff-planning meeting, and was able to observe the recording of the commercial to give her an idea of content and flow. With her portable cassette player in hand, Virginia slowly spoke the dialogue of the commercial into the tape, and was later videotaped signing to her recording in a small studio. Both clips combined, and after hours of work with the aid of a small army, the 30-second commercial was completed.

Visit
EIS’s YouTube page to watch the clip!

The new EIS Promotional Video is now live!

We would like to give a hearty thanks to Chris Grosso and Take2 Productions, as well as Kesar Nuon, formerly of EIS, who helped bring this video together. Many thanks to EIS Interpreters Amy Sakellariou, Jennifer Wissman, Nicole Rambo, Meghan Libous, Nancy Smith, Liz Docherty, and Dasha Weeks. Much appreciation for letting us film on site goes to Eric Mowers & Associates; Laura Spring, Attorney at Law with Sugarmans Law Firm; Dr. Zina Berry of Berry Good Dental; John Liddy, Professor at the Tech Garden; and St. Joseph's Hospital. We must also thank the wonderful EIS staff who also starred in the film: Jay Slater, Corissa Widger and Kesar Nuon.

We had a great team working on this video and we are so happy to now be sharing it with you!
