Learning Objectives
Participants will increase their knowledge and enhance their professional practice in the areas of:
  • voicing English liturgy as typically practiced in Lutheran, Catholic, and Episcopal traditions;
  • interpreting liturgical frozen texts such as the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostle’s Creed, and the Words of Institution;
  • interpreting scripture (focusing on common theological/biblical concepts and the use of space, classifiers, discourse, location, and movement in ASL);
  • using published and internet resources (lexicons, concordances, etc.) to prepare biblical and theological concepts for interpretation;
  • interpreting hymns and contemporary Christian music, both congregational and choir;
  • resolving practical and ethical issues that often arise for interpreters in Christian settings (obtaining prep materials, negotiating fees, taking Eucharist when interpreting, etc.).
