Empire Interpreting Service Staff
Theresa Slater is a professional Sign Language Interpreter and the owner of Empire Interpreting Service. LLC. Theresa is a native of Cortland, NY who attended college at RIT and Gallaudet University. She holds her BS in Cultural Studies with a minor in Business Management.
In New York state she is one of only nine nationally certified interpreters through NAD (National Association of the Deaf) and one of only 13 that hold the RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) specialist certificate: OTC. In addition, Theresa also holds an RID: CI certification.
Theresa has an extensive business background, first working for Porsche/Audi as a regional Business Manager, then as CFO of Candid Photo in Ithaca, New York. Combining her interpreting and corporate backgrounds, it became a natural blending to create Empire Interpreting Service.

Stacey Short, our Business Manager, has been with EIS since the beginning of 2004. Stacey attended college at Tompkins Cortland Community College for Business Administration and came to us after 11 years as Office Manager for a large medical billing firm in Johnson City.
Along with her exemplary skills in business management, she also has received Certificates in excellence in Microsoft Office and is a proficient administrator.
She and her husband David reside in Marathon with their two small children.

Jay Slater joined EIS in late 2006 as our new Director of Marketing and Sales.
Jay is a central New York native. He attended Messiah College where he recieved his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Jay has traveled extensively and has a diverse experience with languages/cultures. His experience with the Deaf community and business strengths make him an optimal fit for our public relation/sales needs.
Jay will be heading the Syracuse branch of EIS in 2007 while continuing his efforts in Marketing. Currently, Jay is a resident of Syracuse. An accomplished marathoner, much of his leisure time is spent long-distance running.

Tonia Chesebro began her career at EIS in August 2006 and was recently promoted to the position of Office Manager.
Tonia attended Tompkins Cortland Community College (as a Liberal Arts Major), and then entered the banking industry, where she worked locally for the past several years. Tonia is also a licensed Notary (since November 2005).
Fortunately for Empire, Tonia looked for a career change where her accounting skills and customer service background could be utilized to embark on a new profession. Tonia has already proven to be a valuable asset to our organization and we look forward to her future with us.

Theresa Lynch is our evening and weekend receptionist. She joined EIS in early 2006.
Theresa is a SUNY Cortland graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Theresa currently resides in Cortland.

Corissa Widger is our newest staff member. As Special Projects Coordinator, Corissa will be teaming with Jay Slater in the Syracuse office. The two will be focusing on the growth of EIS and heading up our document translation division.
She will also be aiding in the coordination of in-service training, Interpreter workshops and large scale interpreting assignments.
Adding Corissa to our team will benefit EIS due to her strong work ethic, communication skills, and passion to improve individual’s quality of life.
